Truth is, I never meant to fall in love with you. Even when I knew I was about to fall, I was in denial. I could hardly believe it.
You’re my safe haven
But there I was, falling not so gracefully. And there you were, ready to catch me whenever, so patient, and smart enough not to scare me away. You’re perhaps the most focused, dependable man I’ve ever known. You know, I never thought I’d find reliability in a man attractive. But somehow, it was your consistency that I needed all along. Somehow, I’ve come to realize how I had no reason to fear at all, because I found myself in a safer place when I fell for you.
You know how to handle me
You have calmly dealt with all my drama, listened to my every rant and always tried to understand me even on my worst days. You respect my views, and loved everything and everyone I hold dear. You’re honest with me, yet sensitive as well, able to accept my flaws when even I myself struggled with them.
You proved me wrong.
You always go out of your way, drive for hours, would even rearrange your schedule just to be there for me. To be honest, I thought it’d be just like that at the start. I secretly counted the days until I can gloat and say na “pare-parehas lang lahat ng lalaki, magaling sa umpisa.” Until one day, I woke up and I realized that, amazingly, you’re really someone who treasures me, probably more than I treasure myself. And that knowledge was powerful enough that it transformed me. You proved yourself time and again, and even when I had the most distrusting heart ever (and with good reason), I found myself trusting you, and in love.
Your love made me brave
I’m not a decisive person, but you knew that already. We truly are opposites. At times, I feel like I’ll never be sure of anything. It took me a long time, but because of you, I was able to let go of all my insecurities. And it was you who helped me lift all the heavy baggages I carried from the past. I know now that this is true: Love banishes all fear.
You make me grow.
Your love gives me the strength to grow wiser and better everyday, and makes me more hopeful for whatever the future holds. I have learned so much from you, and I’m still learning. I might have fallen for you, but you made me grow in love too.
I’m just so glad He gave me you.
I’ve had my share of regrets, but for once my impulsivity took a turn for the best. I am thankful for everything, even all the struggles I went through, because it all led me to you.
So thank you for caring and taking care of my heart. I just couldn’t believe that I could be loved so much by someone. But you did. Even though we started out as friends and you’ve seen me at my worst. Really, you’ll probably never know how grateful I am to Him for giving me you. Of course, you’re not perfect, but perhaps He knew you were perfect for me.
All I pray is that, may we be able to grow together and work on our dreams hand in hand, because I plan to love you for a very long time.
