I can still remember the feeling I had had as a child when I first saw that movie starring Shane West and Mandy Moore… Back to the days when we still watch as a whole family in the cinemas #Pre-NetflixEra 😂✌️  I remember feeling so wistful and thinking, “I want to have a pure love just like that one, minus the sad ending” ♥️

So this is one of the rare books that I got to read only after I watched the adaptation. And what I noticed was how different it was from the movie. I don’t know if it’s just me but in my opinion, the book has a totally different vibe. It’s set in the 1950s, and it’s really a slow, quiet book, typical of a Nicholas Sparks novel. On the other hand, the movie was, hmmm, somewhat fun and exciting?😅 But I suppose it captured exactly what moviegoers would go for, though. But I have to note, that I didn’t picture Mandy Moore at all while reading it. For me, Mandy Moore has that mischievous-sort-of-sexy look, no matter how plain they made her look in the film 😂 And I just couldn’t picture her as Jamie as I read). And Landon, in my mind looked like a young Nicholas Sparks and not Shane West (imo he’s too good-looking, when Landon is such an average guy in the book). And oh, Landon in the book isn’t really a rebel/bad boy, unlike how he’s portrayed in the movie.
.
Other notable differences include: 1. There is no diving involved in the book, like that opening scene where one of their gang nearly died. 2. Landon was not given punishment/community service in the book. Rather, they exchanged favors and just got close through all the walking and talking they did after the play rehearsals. 3. There is no kissing scene in the play (I remember how my mother even covered my eyes in the cinema back then! 👀😂) 4. Instead of the star-watching they did in the film, they watched a spectacular sunset instead. 5. The minister is 72 years old “with an almost translucent skin* in the book but the minister looked young (and even handsome) in the movie ✌️ 6. They added a confrontation scene with Landon and his father in the film I also thought the book missed on that 😊 Well, tbh, I understand all the changes, for it would be such a boring movie if they didn’t revise the scenes.
.
With no “Only Hope” song or “Dancing in the Moonlight” background music, this is a no-frills, confessional, coming-of-age/romantic novel… But when I didn’t cry at all in the movie,  I cried buckets at the end of the book. An ugly cry, really, with the snot and all 😢😂. But it’s such a good cry.🥺
.
Overall, It’s a short novel with tons of lessons in its pages.💛 I’d definitely recommend it to everyone, young and old, and whether you have watched the movie or not. 4.5/5 📖

P. S.
It’s been raining cats and dogs here in my area for the past two days. But I’ve been warming myself up with afternoon tea and a cozy read… I hope you’re all staying safe and warm in your area, too 💛 And I know everything looks dismal (especially here in PH), but like Jamie, let’s all trust in the Lord’s plan for now. 🙏 Happy weekend, bookworms! 🤗 #books #book #awalktoremember #nicholassparks
